Metallifacture Tilt Action - Ford Thames Van Description The jack is a double screw with the main body 6.75" high. With the jack fully wound down to the pin in the outer screw (3rd photo) it measures 8.25", opening to 12" on the outer screw and 18" fully extended. It pivots on the 6" x 3.5" base, presumably to allow the jack body to tilt when raising the axle, thereby maintaining the correct jacking angle. This could be indicative of use with a vehicle with a narrow wheel track. The body is cast METALLIFACTURE down both sides. The base is cast 57 and the number 61 is stamped. Debatable which is the date. The Q2C above has been seen with 2 different cast numbers suggesting that 57 is the date. Interestingly the screw shaft has a stopper pin preventing complete retraction. Photos and information courtesy of NewMoody. The fully extended jack photo from an anonymous contributor. Dave Melton has advised me that this jack is for the Ford Thames Van series, circa 1959. The final picture, supplied by Dave, shows the jack in the van driver's manual. Applicable Vehicles: Ford Thames 10/12/15cwt Van circa 1959. Metallifacture Trolley Jack - Variation Description A variation of the jack immediately above, having cast metal wheels rather than plastic. This could well predate it to the one above. As above, unusual to have a wind-up screw for a trolley jack. It appears to use the principle of Metallifacture cantilever jacks earlier in this database. Nearly all other garage jacks have hydraulic lifts. The label in the last photo has degraded with use. The detail at the top likely included the maker's name and jack lifting capability. I was able to identify LEY, probably part of TROLLEY JACK. Applicable Vehicles: Garage jack. Jack Handle Type: As shown in the photos. Year Dates Noted: Most likely 1960s before Metallifacture moved to Redhill in the early 70s. Value:
