I am frequently contacted by L&E hydraulic jack owners how to lower their jack. Commonly, they find the jack in the back of their garage and the first thing they do is pump it up without weight on it to see if it still works. The answer is to push the handle fully down through a restriction. This operates a pressure release piston. At the same time push down on the central lifting ram. In normal operation the weight of the car would apply this downward pressure.

Lake & Elliot Millennium Jacks The Lake & Elliot Millennium range of jacks consist of the M1DP, M1DL, M1 1/2, M2, M4, M4DL/DP, M4DL, M6, M6DP, M6DL, M8, M10, M12, M20 and M35. In addition are the Millennium 12-MSB-1 1/2 and 17-MSB-1 1/2 hydraulic side-lift and bumper jacks. Description 1 ton, double ram, single pump hydraulic jack with a single manual screw extension. It measures 5" closed with a 6.5" lift and a 2" screw extension. Extended height is 13 1/8". It weighs 11.75lbs. Applicable Vehicles: Claimed to be for the Aston Martin DB2/4. However, I believe this jack was produced in the 1970s, after the AM production run. The L&E S723 is correct for the DB2 and DB2/4, having been found in numerous original cars and also documented. The Dunlop LJ46B also has the same casting but I do not know its provenance. Lake & Elliot Millennium M5.5 DL Description This is an unusual M series jack having no model number markings on the central body. All the detail is stamped on top of the piston retaining nut. The body is cast LAKE & ELLIOT ENGLAND. The top nut is stamped M5 1/2 DL, 5 1/2 TON, 13025. It is a double ram, single pump hydraulic jack with a single manual screw extension. Lake & Elliot Millennium 12-MSB-1 1/2 Description The jack is a Millennium 12-MSB-1 1/2 with a 30cwt lifting capacity. It is 22.5" high when closed. It has a lift of 12" giving an extended height of 34.5". The base is 3.5" square, but a 6" square base was available from L&E as an optional extra. The leg diameter is 1.25". The jack weighs 13lbs. Oil capacity is 1/3 pint. A slightly larger version of the jack was also available, known as the Millennium 17-MSB-1 1/2. See next entry. Photos and information courtesy of Mark Seligman. Lake & Elliot Millennium 17-MSB-1 1/2 Description The Millennium 17-MSB-1 1/2 is identical to the jack above except for the following changes: Closed height is 28.5" Lift is 17" giving an extended height of 45.5". The leg diameter is 1.4". Total weight is 17 lb. Lifting capacity 1.5 tons. Oil capacity is 1/2 pint. The 2nd and 3rd photos, courtesy of Gary Skinner, shows both the 12 and 17 versions side by side. Apart from the different height the 17 version has a larger/taller reservoir and a greater diameter leg. The 4th to 7th photos show a boxed version. It sold for £1,650.00 in September 2023. Lake & Elliot Millennium Garage Jack Description An early garage jack from 1909. Cast MILLENNIUM GARAGE JACK and PATENT No.2271406 on the heel. Interesting ratchet mechanism to lift the entire body up the central pedestal. Similar to the jack below except it has only one lifting saddle.
